28/10/07 :: Crewe Vagrants (cup) .... 2 - 5 28/10/07 Long Sutton Mens 1st XI 2 – 5 Crewe Vagrants Mens 1st XI Harrod HA Trophy R2 Sutton lined up on Sunday to face last year’s trophy beaten finalists with an enthusiastic young side. Sutton began confidently, passing the ball fluidly and defending with a real intensity that was genuinely tested at times. A ten minute spell saw Crewe stamp their mark on the game, plundering four goals, mainly through rebounds and scrambled goals. The home side responded with a couple of goals of their own, a sharp finish from striker Gary Hales and a rasping Nick Ellis strike keeping Sutton in the game. The next goal was always going to be the decider, a couple of Sutton chances went begging before Crewe responded with a well worked team goal. Notable Long Sutton performances came from Stu Ingram at right back, and Simon Clarke deputising well at the back of the midfield. Sutton’s injury list has lengthened, however, sweeper Jimmy Harrison leaving the game in the first half with another hand injury. Initial reports suggest a double break to the hand. |
